Why Improv Is Good for Seniors

  1. It’s a Workout for Your Brain
Improv keeps the mind sharp. Thinking on your feet, listening carefully, and responding in the moment are all great mental exercise — the kind that helps with memory, focus, and staying mentally flexible.
  2. It’s a Genuine Place to Meet People
There’s something about laughing together that speeds up connection. This class offers a relaxed, low-pressure way to meet new people — no small talk required. The games do the work.
  3. It’s Just Plain Fun
Seriously. Improv gives you permission to be silly, spontaneous, and surprised by yourself. That kind of joy is good for the body and the spirit — and it doesn’t require any experience to enjoy.

What the Class Will Cover
Each week will mix games, light instruction, and a lot of laughter. Here’s what students can expect across the five sessions:

  • Improv games — the backbone of every class
  • Teamwork and listening exercises
  • Creating and playing different characters
  • Understanding what improv really is: making things up, not performing stand-up
  • Letting go of “what’s funny” and just going with what’s true
  • A welcoming, judgment-free space to try new things
