Improv Classes

Learn valuable communication skills from some of the best improvisers in Southwest Michigan. Have fun with your peers while exploring this exciting art form.

Our improv classes are a great way to get introduced to improv. Whether you want to perform improv comedy, or engage in great professional development, this is the program for you. Improv builds confidence, communication and leadership skills in an active, amusing way.

Adult Classes

LEVEL 1 – INTRODUCTION TO IMPROV PHILOSOPHIES & TECHNIQUE

In Level 1 you’ll learn the basic skills required to create improvised theatre. The class starts with the foundational tenets of working with people to make scenes happen. The class emphasizes the need for support and collaboration. Everyone is welcome and empowered. This is a great way to get introduced to the techniques improvisers use. Techniques that are valuable far beyond the improv stage. This is a great tool for personal growth. It’s also a fun thing to do with friends.

LEVEL 2 – ESSENTIALS FOR SCENE CREATION

In Level 2 you’ll build on the foundation of skills learned in Level 1. You’ll begin to explore the components of a good scene. You’ll also be given fun and valuable tools for creating interesting characters. You’ll discover your strengths as an improviser. Level 2 further builds on the need for supportive choices.

Prerequisite: Requires completion of Level 1.

LEVEL 3 – BUILDING IMPROV THAT LASTS

In Level 3 you’ll focus on scene work that goes the distance. Students in this level will learn what it takes to sustain scenes and go beyond the laughs. You’ll learn to explore what every scene is about. Much of the class will be focused on two person scene work. This level will create a higher level of comfort being on an improv stage.

Prerequisite: Requires completion of Level 1 & Level 2.

LEVEL 4 – ADVANCED SCENE WORK, LONGFORM CREATION

In Level 4 you’ll dig even deeper into scene creation. Students will find ways to connect scenes together to create a single theatrical piece known as longform improv. This is when improv goes from laughs to amazement. You’ll explore different structures to create longform and truly recognize the limitless possibilities of improv.

Prerequisite: Requires completion of Level 1, Level 2, & Level 3.

  • Adult classes meet once a week for 6 weeks.
  • No improv experience is necessary to enter the program.

  • Max participants: 15

  • All adult participants must start with Level 1

Kids Classes

KIDS IMPROV CLASSES

Class meets once a week for 5-6 weeks. No improv experience is necessary to enter the program.

GENERAL CLASS INFORMATION:

  • Each level lasts 5-6 weeks, 1 one-hour class per week
  • max participants per class: 15
  • age: 7-10 & 11-13
  • $75 per class (non-refundable)

Class meets once a day for 5 days. No improv experience is necessary to enter the program.

  • Each camp lasts 5 days, 3 hours per day
