Slaptail Nation Presents: Slap Your Tail Comedy
Slaptail Nation Presents: Slap Your Tail Comedy at Crawlspace Comedy Theatre returns. Enjoy sets from the best local comics, hailing from Kalamazoo to Detroit, Grand Rapids to South Bend, and more.
James River
James River is a Grand Rapids based comedian with a distinct, off-kilter sense of humor. He’s performed all across the state of Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula. With a mix of old fashioned joke writing, gen-z surrealism, trademark one-liners and self-deprecating humor, he’s been making a rapid rise in Michigan comedy.
Casey Curran
Casey has been producing comedy shows and doing stand up comedy in West Michigan for 9 years. He is known for bringing a fun, upbeat, surrealist style to the stage. Whether its recounting his days in a Laser Tag league or his ongoing one-way feud with Charlie Tuna, it’s impossible to predict what Casey will bring to the stage.
Peyton Castor
Peyton has been compared to Gilda Radner, Sarah Sherman, and a young Mitch McConnell. As cute as a clown, without all the murdery parts. She’s like Bert and Ernie if ERnie wasn’t always in the bathtub and Bert didn’t let Ernie have sex with him. You’ll never be quite sure if she’s a real Muppety kind of girl, or just a very girly kind of Muppet.
Matt Hybels
Matt Hybels is a Michigan based comedian and producer who has performed stand up comedy throughout Michigan and mics in NYC. He is the show-runner for the Kalamazoo comedy staple open mic at Up and Under. When he isn’t performing comedy, he spends his free time transforming into the Wendigo on cold winter nights, roaming the forests of Michigan as he searches for a way to break his curse and using comedy to suppress his appetite for consuming human flesh. If you listen carefully, you can hear his mournful cry for a cold PBR.
Donte Lillard
The Baby Boy Himself, Donte Lillard. He’s been seen opening for the likes of Eddie Griffin, Michael Longfellow, Brad Williams and many others. Donte brings a no-holds barred attitude every time he hits the stage. Whether discussing race, economic status, or his love of rib tips, the laughs never stop with Donte on the mic. From MI to TX, he’s been bringing it at venues such as Mark Ridleys Comedy Castle, The Creek, The Cave ATX, and Detroit House of Comedy. You can catch him performing with Dog Comic Productions like the sold out Wealthy Theater show in 2022 and The Dog Fight Roast Battles.
Brian Atkinson
Brian Atkinson is a comedian, an all-around nice guy, and a horrible person. His guy next door look gives way to surprising twists – like when he provided voices for PBS Kids and acted in a Lifetime Movie Network movie, as a serial killer, in the same studio, on the same day. His voice might be the first thing you notice, but his confidence, and engaging storytelling will keep you laughing. Brian Atkinson makes jokes, but only the finest artisan, hand-crafted, farm-to-table-saw jokes.
Host: The Beaveman
Little is known about the Beaveman prior to 1991 when the first rumored sightings were reported. His movements were tracked from Ft. Benning, GA to Darmstadt, Germany. He then resurfaced at Ft. Bragg, NC. Much like the Mothman of WV, sightings were sporadic from that time until the early 2000’s. Rumors surfaced of a similar individual, but no sightings were truly confirmed until audio evidence emerged in July of 2018 in the form of a comedy podcast known as The Slaptail Squad. It was confirmed that the illusive individual known as the Beaveman truly existed. The Beaveman has been doing mics throughout west Michigan and is the producer and host of Slap Your Tail Comedy. Catch a sighting of him if you can.
