Sketch Writing Class
Did you know that writing can be fun?! Don’t worry about whether your participle is dangling–this class focuses on creativity, inspiration, and, of course, comedy! Through group workshopping, exercises, and writing outside of class, you’ll have the opportunity to create THREE different comedy sketches, each one benefiting from both group and one-on-one feedback. The class will end with a public reading, where you’ll be able to share one of those sketches with friends and family. So if you’re interested in having some serious fun with writing and being seriously supportive of the work of others, join us!

The Instructor:
Bannon Backhus earned his degree in creative writing from WMU, where he was chosen for the New Play Project, and, while still at WMU, his first play to be produced was given an extended run at Whole Art Theatre. A longtime member of Crawlspace Eviction, he has written more than a decade’s worth of sketches for the comedy troupe. Bannon’s work outside of live theatre includes having written the screenplay for the independent film Abduction Day, which premiered at the Roswell International Film Festival, along with scripts for television commercials, radio ads, and corporate videos. Working with KRESA, Bannon wrote What’s Next?! for the 2022-23 season of EFA Presents!, and every weekday he teaches a high school class for improv and scriptwriting. He is the Head Writer of Crawlspace Comedy Theatre’s sketch team.
