The Kalamazoo Improv Fest is bringing a literal whodunnit to the Crawlspace Comedy Theatre stage this November. Headlining the 2025 festival is Clued In, an entirely unscripted murder mystery that has been playing to sold-out audiences in Chicago for nearly a decade.

Since opening at Second City’s Beat Lounge in January 2016, Clued In has cemented itself as Second City Chicago’s longest-running and most popular cabaret show. Now, it anchors a massive three-day lineup of over 18 comedy teams hitting Kalamazoo from November 5th through the 7th.

How It Works Drawing inspiration from the suspense of Agatha Christie, the intellect of Sherlock Holmes, and the sheer grit of Scooby-Doo, the cast relies completely on the room to set the stage. The audience provides the initial suggestion and randomly selects which cast member will play the detective.

From there, the ensemble builds a clever, highly intricate mystery on the spot. Because the plot is entirely fabricated in the moment, not even the performers know who the killer is until the final reveal.

What Critics Are Saying The show’s ability to weave genuine intrigue with situational comedy has earned it high praise across the Chicago theater scene:

  • The Chicago Reader noted, “The cast created a kooky clever world and had infectious fun doing it.”
  • Visceral Adventure called it refreshing, saying it brings “situational, and universal laughter back to the form.”
  • Amanda Finn of ShowCago simply called it “Beyond a hoot.”

Clued In will be performing as the marquee act for the festival weekend. Tickets for the Kalamazoo Improv Fest, including exclusive early-bird discounts for mailing list members, drop soon.
